“Lords of Finance. The Bankers Who Turned the World ” ( born Lords of Finance: The Bankers Who Broke the World ) is a popular science book by the American writer Liaquat Ahamed about the events leading up to the Great Depression . She tells the personal stories of four heads of central banks of the world's main economies: Benjamin Strong , Governor of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York ; Montague Norman from the Bank of England ; Emile Moreau , heads of the Bank de France ; and Yalmar Mine from the Reichsbank . One of the main themes of the book is the role played by central banks, “persistently adhering to the gold standard, ” even “in conditions of complete disaster” [1] . The famous British economist of the time, John Maynard Keynes, appears in a book in a role opposite to central banks.
