Creation History
The MT-SM multi-purpose tractor was created to replace the MT-S tractor, which was not put into mass production. In 1992, by order of the Minister of Defense of Russia, the MT-SM was adopted [1] .
Design Description
The main purpose of the MT-SM is the transportation of goods weighing up to 10 tons, towing gun-guided radar stations, artillery systems, as well as trailers with a total weight of up to 15 tons. All tractor equipment is mounted in an armored enclosure. The chassis is unified for individual units and assemblies with the chassis of the Buk and Tor torpedo systems [1] [2] .
Engine and transmission
As a power plant , a V-84Zh diesel engine with a capacity of 780 hp is used. The transmission is mechanical , has an additional drive with a hydrostatic transmission, while the MT-SM has the ability to perform a stepless rotation with a radius of 0 meters to infinity [1] [2] .
Chassis
In the chassis of the MT-SM, hydropneumatic suspension and tracks with rubber joints are used [1] .
Surviving instances
