The Semino Wars , also known as the Florida Wars , are three armed conflicts on the territory of the modern American state of Florida between the Seminoles and the United States Army . The name of the seminoles designated groups of various Indian peoples, as well as fugitive black slaves who fought on their side, who settled in Florida at the beginning of the XVIII century. The first Seminol war was from 1814 to 1819 (although its various periods give different periods), the second - from 1835 to 1842, the third - from 1855 to 1858.
The first Seminole War was caused by the attack of General Andrew Jackson's troops on Negro Fort and its destruction in 1816. Jackson also attacked the Spaniards in Pensacola , as a result of which the Spanish crown ultimately ceded its colony to Florida, acquired in 1783, by the Americans.
