Elvis Presley Version
Presley recorded Mystery Train on July 11, 1955; the same day, I Forgot to Remember to Forget (a new song written by Stan Kesler) and Tryin 'to Get to You by the Negro band The Eagles were recorded. The refrain of the line “Train I ride sixteen coaches long” closely follows The Carter Family ’s song “Worried Man Blues” of 1930.
Side “B” of the single (song “ I Forgot to Remember to Forget ”) gained even greater popularity, taking in 1956 the 1st place in the charts for the country category of Billboard magazine.
For Presley, Mystery Train became his fifth single (released August 1, 1955); he also became the last on Sun Records label : the next single - “ Heartbreak Hotel ” - will be released in 1956 on RCA Records .
