Biography

Ivan Bokhovkin was born on February 16, 1912, in the village of Buryatino, the Meshchovsky district of the Kaluga province. He graduated from the Baryatinsky elementary school in 1924 [2] , the Meshchov secondary school in 1929 . In 1933 he graduated from the chemistry department of the Ryazan Pedagogical Institute , after which he worked as a chemistry teacher at the Malo-Yaroslavl College. After graduating from graduate school at Voronezh State University , from December 1940 he worked at the Arkhangelsk State Forestry Institute (ALTI). He held the post of head of the department ( 1962 - 1966 ), vice-rector for science ( 1962 - 1966 ), in 1966 he was appointed rector of ALTI.

The scientific activity of Ivan Mikhailovich was aimed at solving urgent problems of using the natural resources of the North and improving the technology of wood processing. He has published more than 200 scientific papers devoted to the study of the corrosion of metal alloys in aggressive environments and the selection of inhibitors from products of chemical processing of wood, the study of intermolecular interactions between substances derived from wood. In the course of these studies, more than 100 new complex compounds in the liquid and solid phases were discovered, their composition was established by methods of physico-chemical analysis.

Ivan Bokhovkin took an active part in the public life of the city and the region: he was a deputy of the regional Council of Workers' Deputies of the Arkhangelsk region , chairman of the regional society “Knowledge”, chairman of the regional council of university rectors. [3]

On November 19, 1974 , by the decision of the Arkhangelsk city executive committee, along with Heroes of Socialist Labor A. I. Popov , M. M. Kuznetsov , A. I. Veshnyakov , Professor Bohovkin was awarded the title of “Honorary Citizen of Arkhangelsk ”.

Ivan Mikhailovich Bokhovkin died on February 6, 1979 . He was buried at the Solombalsky cemetery of Arkhangelsk. [four]
