History
1945 - 1991
The construction of a bearing plant in Kharkov (named "8th State Bearing Plant") began at the end of 1944 [2] . The plant became the first bearing industry enterprise built in the territory of the Ukrainian SSR . After the end of the Great Patriotic War, the restoration of the national economy of the country began and the need for bearings, different in design, capacity, purpose, has increased dramatically. By winter, built the first factory building. Materials and equipment came from the 1st, 3rd and 4th GPPs, which in those years already had extensive experience in organizing the production and manufacture of bearings. Specialists from turning, grinding, tool making arrived from Moscow, Kuibyshev, Saratov.
On September 1, 1946, the plant team mastered the manufacture of the first three types of bearings 203, 307 and 408.
The launch of the first stage of the plant took place early, on November 1, 1947 [2] [3] . By this time, the plant had already produced 14 types of bearings and handed over 200 thousand pieces of bearings to the state.
In 1950-1951, the plant was retooled. The designers decided one of the main tasks - improving product quality and productivity. A ring polishing machine, aggregates for the mechanical processing of chips, a transport delivery system for bearings from assembly operations to packaging, and conservation plants were created.
The plant is characterized by high rates of development and growth of production volumes.
For seven years (1959-1965), the volume of production has more than doubled.
In 1964, the plant began preparations for the creation of automatic lines for processing rings of car bearings and the transfer of forging production to a new technical basis. As a result, the plant became the head enterprise of the USSR for the production of car bearings [3] .
On August 20, 1966, [4] the plant was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor [2] [5] for mastering the release of new products.
By 1967, the plant was one of the first among Kharkiv enterprises to successfully introduce elements of industrial aesthetics into the production process (over 50% of the plant territory was planted with plantings of thuja , silver fir and flower beds, fountains were installed in the main building by graduate students of Kharkov Art and Industry Institute was lined with wall panels ). In 1967, the plant produced 250 types of bearings weighing from 350 grams to 45 kg for agricultural vehicles, motor vehicles, railway rolling stock and aircraft [6] . As a result, in 1967, the plant was awarded the Commemorative Red Banner of the Communist Party of Ukraine [3] .
During the ninth five-year plan (1971 - 1975) , the reconstruction of the production base of the plant was carried out - complex mechanized workshops were created, 38 automatic lines were put into operation , advanced technological processes were introduced at 130 operations . The carried-out modernization allowed increasing labor productivity by 38% [5] .
As of the beginning of 1979, the plant produced 400 sizes of bearings weighing from a few grams to 45 kg, which were supplied to the USSR industry and exported to 40 countries of the world [5] .
In the 1980s, the plant became the head in the country for the supply of car bearings. Their production was organized on 32 automatic lines for turning, grinding and heat treatment. At the same time there are new industrial buildings.
As of 1985, over 100 automated lines operated at the plant, producing about 400 standard sizes of bearings used in agricultural engineering, automotive industry, locomotive and car building, electrical engineering [2] .
After 1991
In 1994, the Kharkov Bearing Plant Open Joint-Stock Company was established on the basis of the enterprise.
In May 1995, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine listed the plant on the list of enterprises subject to privatization during 1995 [7] .
In August 1997, the plant was included in the list of enterprises of strategic importance to the economy and security of Ukraine [8] .
In 1999, the UPEC Industrial Group acquired the first large block of shares in the Kharkov Bearing Plant, and later became the main shareholder. The opponent in this transaction was the American company SigmaBlazer [9] .
Since January 2000, HARP has been a member of the UPEC Industrial Group.
With the arrival of a new investor, due to the introduction of new technologies and the improvement of the management system, a qualitative leap was made in the production and sales of products, namely
In 2000, production at JSC HARP passed an observant audit of the International Certifying Organization TUV CERT, which confirmed the compliance of the company's production technology with the ISO-9002 standard [10] , and new types of bearings were mastered.
2001: UPEC TREYDING LLC was established as a distributor of HARP JSC with exclusive rights to sell bearing products; Organized trade missions; An efficient dealer network has been established; Trade relations with Rostselmash JSC, Volga Automobile and Minsk Tractor Plants were restored; The largest in the Kharkiv region investment project for the modernization of production at JSC HARP was adopted.
2002: The range of bearings and the increase in production volumes were expanded; New contracts for long-term work have been concluded with AvtoVAZ JSC, AvtoZAZ-DEU JV and other large industrial enterprises; Increased sales; Developed and implemented a new corporate identity; The first stage of technical re-equipment and modernization of the production of the Kharkov Bearing Plant as part of an investment project has been completed.
In 2003, the plant increased its production by 23% compared with 2002 and produced 22.293 million bearings [11] .
By the beginning of 2004, the plant had mastered the production of more than 500 types of ball and roller bearings with a diameter of from 30 to 320 mm [12] .
In 2006, the plant increased its net income to UAH 229.7 million and ended the year with a loss of UAH 13.6 million [13] .
In 2007, the plant mastered the production of hot-stamped and turned semi-finished products and components of automotive, railway and industrial bearings [14] , increasing net income to 311.5 million hryvnia and ended 2007 with a loss of 4 million hryvnia [15] .
In 2008–2010 at HARP (as well as at other enterprises of the UPEC group) a complex automation system for engineering and technological training and computer support for machine-building production (CSA) was introduced [16] .
In 2009, HARP certified and began mass production of a new development - a double closed-type rolling bearing (the so-called “cylindrical cassette” CRU-duplex), intended for installation in axle load 23.5 ton-force per axle box [ 17] [18] .
2010 Kharkov Bearing Plant OJSC finished with net income of UAH 648.108 million, which is 34.2% higher than the 2009 figure. At the end of the period, the plant recorded a profit in the amount of 13.94 million UAH. (in 2009 - 35.5 million UAH.).
Since 2011 - transformation into Public Joint-Stock Company “Kharkov Bearing Plant”.
During the implementation of the program for the reconstruction of the production base, at the end of March 2011, four new lathes with numerical program control manufactured by the company "Goodway" (Taiwan) were installed at the plant [19] . In October 2011, the plant purchased and installed two circular saws to obtain blanks for the rings of ball bearings produced by the German company Behringer [20] . In addition, in June 2011, the plant ordered three heat-treatment furnaces for hardening the rings of railway bearings produced by the Polish company Seco / Warwick [21] (the first of which was obtained in the summer of 2012) [22] .
In the second half of 2014, the plant reduced its production volumes [23] , and in the first half of 2015, the decline in production continued [24] .
At the end of 2015, the plant carried out an update of laboratory equipment, introduced new eddy current testing devices for defects in the surface layer of roller rings of the type PVK-KM2 [25] .
In March 2016, the plant mastered the production of case bearing assemblies and bearings for imported agricultural equipment with the X-SHIELD high-pressure seal [26] .
