Synopsis
The show was a chronicle from the life of employees of a small police station. The series throughout the broadcast was loved by critics, for its innovative way of shooting, which greatly influenced all subsequent police dramas, but was not successful in terms of television ratings [1] . “Blues Hill Street” has since been considered an example of “high-quality drama” on television, which skillfully combined the format of a police show with elements of a soap opera, sitcom and documentary [1] . When creating the series, the producers were inspired by another innovative program - The Mary Tyler Moore Show , as well as the director's vision of Robert Altman [1] .
Rewards
For its first season, the show was awarded eight Emmys , which was a record for the debut series at that time. In total, the series in its history has been nominated 98 times for the Emmy Award [2] . With four victories as " Best Drama Series ", "Blues Hill Street" is a leader in the category along with " Law of Los Angeles ", " West Wing " and " Mad Men ".
In 2002, Hill Street Blues took 14th place on the list of “ Fifty Greatest TV Shows of All Time by TV Guide ” [3] . In 2013, TV Guide placed Blues Hill Street on the list of “60 Greatest Dramas of All Time” [4] .
