FCoE

FCoE - (or Fiber Channel over Ethernet ) is a new protocol (transport) defined by the standard in the T11 committee. (T11 is a committee of the International Committee for Information Technology Standards - INCITS - responsible for Fiber Channel .) FCoE transfers Fiber Channel frames over Ethernet , encapsulating Fiber Channel frames in Ethernet jumbo frames . The standard was fully ratified in 2009.

FCoE provides the ability to reduce data center costs by converging storage networks. TCP / IP and Fiber Channel can operate at 10Gbps Ethernet speeds, which leads to cost savings by reducing the number of network adapters, switches, cables and network switches used. The cost of cooling data centers is also reduced, and the consolidation of infrastructure management of data storage and information processing centers is simplified. FCoE has gained rapid development in the market because this technology provides excellent performance and reduces the total cost of solutions for data center infrastructure.

The leading manufacturers such as: Absolute Analysis, BLADE Network Technologies, Broadcom , Brocade , Fujitsu Siemens , Cisco , EMC , Emulex, Finisar, HP , IBM , Intel , Hitachi Data Systems , Mellanox, NetApp , Nuova took part in the development of the specification of the FCoE protocol , PMC-Sierra, QLogic, and Sun Microsystems . For document standards with detailed FCoE protocol information, see FC-BB-5, Chapter 7, “FC-BB_E Structure and Concepts.” This standard has been published by ANSI T11.
