Filisia Rashad ( born Phylicia Rashād , born June 19, 1948) is an American actress and singer, best known for her role in the popular sitcom Cosby Show (1984-1992).

In 2004, Rashad became the first African-American actress to win the Tony Award in the category “For Best Actress in a Play”, “Raisins in the Sun” [1] [2] . In 2008, she played a major role in the television film adaptation of the play, for which she was nominated for an Emmy in the categories of " Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Movie " and " The US Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress in a Television Movie or Mini-Series ", and also won the NAACP Award .

Life and career
Filisia Rashad was born in Houston, Texas. She is the older sister of actress, director and choreographer Debbie Allen . She achieved the first wide fame for her role in the Broadway musical "Dream Girls". At later stages of her career, she performed in such productions as “August: Osage County”, “Cat on a Red-Hot Roof”, “Pearl of the Ocean”, “Raisins in the Sun”, which brought her the “Tony” award for Best Actress in a play in 2004, and many other industries.
Rashad was most successful thanks to the role of wealthy lawyer Claire Huckstable in the sitcom Cosplay Show with Bill Cosby . The show became the biggest hit of the 1980s, which revived the sitcom genre [3] , and also introduced variety to television, as one of the first successful ones where African-Americans were in the lead roles [4] . For her role in the series, Rashad was twice nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a comedy television series , and also received several other awards. The show lasted eight seasons, from 1984 to 1992.
In 1996, Rashad returned to television with a role in the Cosby sitcom, again with Bill Cosby. The show, although successful, was not as large as their previous project and ended in 2000. In 2008, she starred in the television movie Raisins in the Sun, a television version of the play, and was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a mini-series or film and the United States Film Actors Guild for Best Actress in a television movie or mini-series . In 2010, she was part of the ensemble of the movie “ Songs of Love, ” and in 2012 she played the role of Clary in the film “ Steel Magnolias, ” another version of the eponymous play by Robert Harling . Also at that time, she began acting in the television series “ Do No Harm ”.
Filisia Rashad was married three times, she has a daughter, Kondola Rashad , also an actress. They starred together in the movie Steel Magnolias in 2012.
