Ray Sharkey was born November 14, 1952 in Brooklyn , New York , USA [2] . His father, professional drummer Ray Sharkey Sr., abandoned his family when the boy was only five years old. And in 1974 he made his film debut in the movie Lords of Flatbush .

Ray Sharkey has struggled with addiction to cocaine and heroin throughout his career. It is known that back in 1987, Ray spent a couple of months in a rehabilitation center in California with a diagnosis of HIV - even then the actor had problems with drugs. July 30, 1992, while in Vancouver ( British Columbia , Canada ), Ray was arrested for drug possession. Canadian customs officers, doing a routine check of incoming goods at the airport, found a small amount of cocaine and heroin in a black envelope that was sent from Los Angeles to Sharkey. Police searched his hotel room and found an additional supply of medicine - Sharkey was imprisoned, but later released on bail [2] [4] .
In 1992, his ex-girlfriend, Elena Monica, filed a lawsuit against the actor for $ 52,000,000 - her claim against the actor sounded like "knowingly becoming infected with AIDS ." Despite the fact that Monica won the case, she never received the money - Sharkey simply didn’t have it [3] .
