Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan

The Ministry of the Interior and Communications of Japan ( 総 務 省 So: muse:) is the executive authority in the Japanese government. He oversees the Japanese administrative system, manages local governments, and is involved in elections, telecommunications, postal services and government statistics. The Minister of the Interior and Communications is appointed from among the members of the current cabinet.

Content

History

The Ministry was created on January 6, 2001 by merging the Ministry of the Interior ( 自治 省 省 zitisho:) , the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications ( 郵政 省 省 Yu: Seisyo:) and the Agency for Management and Coordination ( 総 務 務 庁 со: Mute:) . Certain functions of managing and coordinating the agency were transferred to the cabinet secretariat in a routine manner, while many functions of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications were transferred to the independent Postal Services Agency, which later became Japan Post.
