Randlesham incident

The Rendlesham Forest incident is a series of unexplained lights observed and alleged UFO landings in the Randlesham Forest, Suffolk County, UK, at the end of December 1980 [1] , not far from the US Air Force base [2] [3] . Dozens of base officers allegedly witnessed these events for two or three days, observing unidentified objects of a triangular shape and inexplicable moving lights, and then strange tracks were allegedly discovered in the forest, which the local police, however, identified as animal tracks [4] .

According to some ufologists , this incident, along with the events in Roswell , is one of the most famous cases of UFO sightings in the 20th century and even received the unofficial name of "British Roswell" [1] .

The UK Department of Defense denied that these events posed any threat to national security, as a result of which a serious investigation of the incident has never been officially conducted [2] [3] . This has spawned many conspiracy -style rumors that the US and British governments are reluctant to reveal the truth to the public. The case file was published in May 2001, but consisted mainly of internal correspondence and answers to public questions; the published documents contained explanations from the Ministry of Defense why the incident was not seriously investigated [4] .

The skeptical explanation of the incident can be the adoption of UFO lights of the Orford Ness lighthouse or just bright stars [5] [6] . There are also many opinions that the whole story of the incident is nothing more than a hoax [7] [8] [9] .
