The Ministry of Commerce of the PRC , formerly the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (对外贸易 经济 合作 部), is the executive body of the State Council of the PRC . It is responsible for developing policies on foreign trade , export and import regulation, foreign direct investment , consumer protection , market competition, and bilateral and multilateral trade agreements.

The responsibility of the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC also includes promoting a closer partnership between the economies of the special administrative regions: Hong Kong and Macau , as well as the economy of the rest of China.
It was recreated in 2003, the functions of the State Committee for Economic Affairs and Trade and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Economic Cooperation were transferred to it [1] .
