He studied under the Venetian artist Pietro Liberi . Initially, he was imitated by Caravaggio , and in later works the influence of the manner of Pietro da Corton , based on the principles of classicism of the masters of the Bologna school, was noticeable.
He influenced the local masters, in particular, Johann-Michael Rottmayr was a pupil of Johann Karl Lot.
Creativity
He painted canvases, mainly on religious and mythological subjects, as well as portraits . He depicted large full-blooded figures, introduced elements of genre in the spirit of the Flemish masters. Compositions, gestures, character types of the artist’s canvases, a wealth of color solutions, a dynamic brushstroke in the tradition of Northern Italy masters, soft but effective lighting, and freedom of fantasy made Johann Karl Lot's name famous among European collectors, his works suited the tastes of aristocratic customers.
