Drake Comments on Take Care Songs
Over My Dead Body
“This song is my open letter to all the haters. Do you want me to leave and stop making music? Only over my dead body!"
Shot For Me
“It was written by Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd), and I just reworked it. I need to prove that I am not an ordinary rapper, that I can change and work in various genres. I think I succeeded here. ”
Headlines
“The best song on the album. I like to write songs with meaning, with a message. I want people to hang out under the "Headlines", but at the same time, those who are interested in my career and my life will find a hidden message in it. "
Crew Love
“While the recitative is going on there, she’s so crazy, like I’m putting all my grudge on him to those who think that I became a star by accident, and claims that I stole someone’s flow. I'm not here at all because of any particular flow there, and not because I ended up in a good place at a good time. No one can ever tell me, like: "Drake consists of such and such a component." Never".
Take Care
“I’m very interested in what is happening in electronic music. I listened a lot to DJ Mehdi (may he rest in peace) and Jamie xx. One of the tracks of the latter struck me so much that I couldn't help but release it on the album. ”
Marvin's Room
“I am very proud of this song. If only because subsequently a lot of remixes appeared on it. So, people found something of their own in it. "
We'll Be Fine
“The hardest song on the album, it was hard for me to record it. It says a lot about alcohol, insomnia and other shit. Do not look at the name, this track is the most depressing. ”
Make Me Proud
“Nicky (Minaj, who took part in the recording of the track. - Ed.) - is the girl of my dreams. She always works in a special way. She told me that on the next album she plans to return to real rap. I’m not waiting for this moment. ”
Lord Knows
“We brought this track to mind for a very long time. It used a sample of one gospel group, which she did not want to give rights to. Producer Just Blaze suggested calling a choir in the studio and recording this piece live. So we did. ”
Cameras / Good Ones Go
“This is an adapted song by R&B artist John Bee. Because of it, as a result, the release of the album had to be postponed, and there were difficulties with clearing the copyright. ”
Doing It Wrong
“Initially, we wanted Stevie (Wonder, who played the harmonica on the track. - Ed.) To help us record two songs, but in the end we got only one. “I don’t remember exactly how long it took him to record his part, but it seems like a little - about half an hour.”
The Real Her
“Lil Wayne is the first person to whom I send my texts after I wrote them. He is like a brother to me. And when we both record in the studio, it’s something. ”
Look What You've Done
“I wanted to do something similar to Kanye West’s song“ Hey Mama ”- to tell about the main woman in my life. I think I did it. ”
HYFR (Hell Yeah Fucking Right)
“This is an attempt to tell about the daily life of the artist. About how hard it is sometimes. Wizzy plays the role of a journalist who asks me stupid questions. He’s a great actor. ”
Practice
“This is a reference to rapper Juvenile's track“ Back Dat Azz Up ”. Abel (Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, who participated in producing the track. - Helped me to make an R&B ballad from a street rap track. ”
The Ride
“This is the only song on the album that doesn’t really fit into the atmosphere. All the other songs are like, I’m all cool, I’m happy, I want to have fun and want you to feel it too, and so that you know at what cost I got all this and that it was not in vain. But in "The Ride" I kind of take a step to the side, look around and see that sometimes things go a bit wrong ... "
Subtleties associated with the release of the album
The cover of the Take Care album was the subject of ridicule, and Photoshop masters turned it into an Internet meme in a matter of days.
The song Underground Kings caused bewilderment and criticism from fans of the cult group UGK , as the name refers to the group.
Three songs never made it onto the album for various reasons: Dreams Money Can Buy , Club Paradise , Free Spirit .
