Criticism
Criticism of the picture was contradictory and mostly negative. Most experts compared the picture with Soderberg's " Infection ", which appeared in the same year, as well as with the plot-like " Blindness " of Meirelisch . The work of David Mackenzie to a much lesser extent is associated with the social and scientific side of the mysterious epidemic. The picture is devoted to the sensual and metaphysical side of the apocalyptic event, which was reflected on the screen in the traditions of the arthouse [7] [8] .
According to James Berardinelli, the creators of the picture could not properly dispose of potentially interesting material that fell into their hands. This is neither a love story, nor a what-if movie [9] . The critic of the Daily Telegraph called the pathos of the picture false, and the effort to awaken the sympathy of the audience with documentary inserts was unconvincing [10] . Variety noted that the main problem of the picture is an unsuccessful scenario, with an attempt to combine incompatible elements of a love story and apocalyptic. According to the script, it was also not possible to breathe life into the characters [11] . A significant part of the picture is composed of scenes of proximity of the main characters, which were shot fairly openly. Evan McGregor and Eva Green have extensive experience in the field of cinema sex. This part of the picture was welcomed by critics. New York Times and Entertainment Weekly commentators praised the sensory side and noted McGregor and Green, who formed a pair that looked good on the screen [12] [8]
