Biography
Born on January 26 ( February 8 ), 1905 in the village of Novoelovka (now Talmensky district of Altai Krai ) in a peasant family. Russian Member of the CPSU (b) since 1930. Until 1921 he laborers, then worked at the creamery.
In the Red Army since 1927. He graduated from the regimental school. He participated in the battles on the Sino-Eastern Railway (CER). In 1932 he graduated from the infantry school in Ordzhonikidze. In 1939 - artillery Advanced training courses for command personnel.
Member of the Great Patriotic War from the first days. The war found Major Basov as commander of an artillery division. The first battle took in the battle for the city of Smolensk . Then he participated in the battle for Moscow . The Basov gunners proved themselves in battles near Volokolamsk , Bryansk , Mozhaisk .
In 1943, Colonel Basov commanded the 1st Guards Fighter Anti-Tank Artillery Brigade. Under his command, the brigade distinguished itself in the battle for the liberation of Smolensk and received the name "Smolenskaya".
On December 25, 1943, Lt. Col. Basov was recalled from the front to form the 26th separate anti-tank fighter brigade of the High Command reserve. Colonel Basov’s brigade distinguished themselves on July 13, 1944, during the breakthrough of the strongly fortified enemy defenses and the crossing of the Western Bug River . Having seized a bridgehead on the opposite bank, the brigade fighters were one of the first in the army to reach the state border. Repeated attempts to counterattack the tank units of the Wehrmacht were successfully repulsed with heavy losses for those.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 23, 1944 for exemplary performance of command assignments and shown courage and heroism in battles with German invaders, Colonel Ivan Sidorovich Basov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 4599).
The last battle was taken by the Basov brigade on May 8, 1945 near the German city of Dresden , where a large group of enemy tanks was defeated.
In 1948, Colonel Basov was sacked. He lived in the city of Ivanteevka, Moscow Region . He died on November 7, 1964.
