Established by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on December 26, 1978 . At the award, a medal and diploma are awarded; worn on the left side of the chest. It is made in the form of a round medallion with the image of St. Sergius of Radonezh. Motto: “SMYRNY PROMOTION” (applied on the reverse side).
Hierarchs of the Local Orthodox Churches , representatives of heterodox Churches and religious associations for church and peacekeeping merits, state and public figures for fruitful work are awarded.
