History
The history of Kiev Medical University dates back to the rescript of Emperor Nicholas I dated April 29, 1840 , which was ordered to open a medical faculty as a part of Kiev University of St. Vladimir (it should have been based on the Vilna Medical and Surgical Academy transferred to Kiev). In 1841, the first 29 students came to the faculty - by 1917 their number had increased almost 50 times. In 1875, a clinic was opened at the faculty, in 1888 and 1891 . specialized clinics fnj obstetrics and gynecology and childhood diseases were added to it.
As a result of several reorganizations in 1919 - 1921, the Medical Faculty of Kiev University was transformed into a separate Kiev Medical Institute. From 1941 to 1944, the institute was evacuated in Chelyabinsk , where it continued its work and subsequently, with the help of its faculty, the Chelyabinsk Medical Institute was established.
In 1946, the Institute was named after Academician A. A. Bogomolets ; On November 17, 1995, by decree of the President of Ukraine L. D. Kuchma, the university was given national status and its current name.
