The parade on Red Square on May 9, 1990 was held on the day of the 45th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War . The military parade was hosted by the USSR Minister of Defense Marshal of the Soviet Union D. T. Yazov , and commanded by the parade. Colonel-General N. V. Kalinin, commander of the Moscow Military District , [1] . The parade was attended by 12.5 thousand people and 429 pieces of equipment [1] . This was the last parade in the USSR on Red Square, dedicated to victory in the Great Patriotic War [2] .
Content
Walking Parade
As in the 1985 parade, the foot part of the parade consisted of two sub-parts: historical and modern.
Historical part
The historical part of the parade was opened by the carrying of the Banner of Victory (copies) [1] . A live copy of the Monument to the Warrior-Liberator , installed in Treptower Park in Berlin [1] [3] [4], was taken across the square behind it. Then, the standards of all fronts of the Great Patriotic War, 150 combat banners of the war period were carried across the square. Their passage was ensured by the company of the Guard of Honor, representing the Ground Forces , the Air Force and the Navy (Cadets of the Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School), followed by the passage of columns of war veterans, including 160 Heroes of the Soviet Union and Knights of the Order of Glory [1] [ 4] . They were followed by 157 participants in the Victory Parade of 1945 , 157 underground guerrillas and 157 rear workers [1] . The historical part of the parade was completed by the passage of the consolidated regiment of the liberators (soldiers in raincoats and with PPSh machine guns) [1] . These were cadets of the Moscow Higher Command School of the Road and Engineering Troops.

- Higher Naval School of Radio Electronics named after A.S. Popov
- Airborne Parachute Regiment
- Moscow Higher Border School
- Division of Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR named after Dzerzhinsky
- Suvorov and Nakhimov schools
- Moscow Higher Military Command School named after the Supreme Council of the RSFSR
At the end of the walking part of the parade, 30 Suvorov and Nakhimov climbed to the rostrum of the mausoleum in order to congratulate the country's leadership [5] .
Technical Parade
The technical part began with the passage of equipment from the time of the Great Patriotic War [5] .

For the first time, modern military equipment was presented at the parade in camouflage coloring [4] [5] .
