Biography
After graduating from school and courses of Komsomol workers, he worked in the government bodies of the OGPU and the NKBD in Kalmykia, Moscow , and Astrakhan.
He participated in political repressions and in the arrests of the Kalmyk Soviet intelligentsia (writers, co-workers, etc.), the leadership of KASKA and their families, monks, the closure of Kalmyk khuruls, and the confiscation of religious items and food from khuruls.
Due to a serious illness, he was forced to leave service in state bodies and retire at an early age.
In 1924, Baatr Basangov was admitted to the USSR Writers Union .
In December 1953, during the deportation of Kalmyks, he was exiled to Siberia . In deportation, Baatr Basangov first lived in the Krasnoyarsk Territory , then moved to Abakan , where he got a job as a literary officer in the newspaper Sovetskaya Akassia. After working for several days, he soon died on April 25, 1944 .
Creativity
Baatr Basangov began to publish his first literary experiments at the end of the 20s of the 20th century in the Kalmyk newspaper “ Taңchin zəңg ” (“Regional News”). The first stories in the Kalmyk language were published in 1929 in the journal “ Mana Keln ” (“My Language”). The first book of short stories in Kalmyk language, “The Truth of Bygone Years,” was published in 1931.
In 1934 he prepared the book “Collection of Kalmyk literature”, which was published in Moscow.
In August 1937, Baatr Basangov prepared an interlinear translation of twelve songs of the Kalmyk epic “ Dzhangar ”, which in 1940 was used by Semyon Lipkin in literary translation. At the same time, Baatr Basangov was engaged in translations into the Kalmyk language of the classics of Marxism-Leninism, V. I. Lenin and world literature. Known for his translation into the Kalmyk language of the poem by A. Pushkin " Monument ".
Baatr Basangov wrote several plays “Chuuche”, “Kermen”, “A Case Worth Surprising”, “Xiang-Ka”, “Fortress Girl”, which are still being performed on the stage of Kalmyk State Theater .
In the pre-war years, Baatr Basangov was involved in compiling the first in the Kalmyk lexicography of the large “Russian-Kalmyk Dictionary”, which was published in 1940 and reprinted in 1963. In 1940, he published a book of Kalmyk proverbs and sayings.
