May 4

The main date of Star Wars Day (aka Luke Skywalker Day) is May 4 [2] . The date was chosen because of the May the Force be with you quotation that often sounds in the film and has become famous, which many fans beat as May the fourth be with you ( English fourth - fourth and May - May ) Star Wars fans weren’t the only ones to use such a pun . On May 4, 1979, when Margaret Thatcher was elected the first woman to be Prime Minister of Great Britain , her party posted an announcement on the London evening news with the words May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations ("May Fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations.") [3]

In 2005, in an interview with N24, George Lucas was asked to give a famous quote. The words of Lucas May the force be with you simultaneous translator into German translated as Am 4. Mai sind wir bei Ihnen ("We will be with you on May 4"). The interview was broadcast on TV Total on May 18, 2005 along with the translated phrase [4] .

The holiday is celebrated not only by fans. For example, themed “Star Wars days” are organized in the amusement parks, and Disney released a series of collectible posters in honor of May 4 [5] . The official website of the saga on May 4, 2011 announced the release of the Blu-ray edition of all six films and launched an impromptu countdown [6]

May 5 and 6

Star Wars Day became so popular that the next day, May 5, was jokingly called “Revenge of the Fifth” - in honor of the third episode of the saga called “Revenge of the Sith” the Sith ). The last word from the name is similar to English. fifth - “fifth”, on which the pun was built. On this day, saga fans go to the dark side of the Force and honor the Sith Lords and other anti-heroes from the Star Wars universe. There is also an interpretation according to which Revenge Day is celebrated on May 6 and is called “ Revenge of the Sixth Day”, since the English word Sith is similar to both fifth (“fifth”) and sixth (“sixth” ) [7] .

May 25

The Los Angeles City Council announced May 25 “Star Wars Day” in honor of the anniversary of the release of the first saga movie, Star Wars. Episode IV: A New Hope , May 25, 1977 [8] . On the same day and in honor of the same event, Geek Pride Day is celebrated - The day of geek culture, which has been celebrated in the United States since 2008, but is not limited only to the Star Wars universe, but also includes the “ Hitchhiker 's Guide to the Galaxy ” by Douglas Adams and the “ Flat World ” by Terry Pratchett .
