Alanya, Roberto

Roberto Alanya was born in Clichy-sous-Bois in France in a family of Sicilians. After watching some films with Mario Lanza, I decided to test myself in the opera. He studied music from 10 years old, without stopping his passion for light music. There is an assumption ^{[ whose? ]} that Roberto discovered his talents not at a young age - as a teenager, he worked almost as a pizza delivery man, working part-time in bars in Paris . He entered the opera school in Paris in 1987.

In 1988, the young tenor won a leadership position in the Luciano Pavarotti Competition in Philadelphia. It was then that Pavarotti noted Roberto, predetermining the fate of the best tenor in his business.

The first performance took place in 1988 in the UK, where Roberto sang the part of Alfred in the opera La Traviata . The debut of a young tenor with the same role has already met La Scala . With the role of Rudolph, Alanya performed on the best stages of the world: at Covent Garden , at the Vienna Opera, at the Metropolitan Opera , in La Scala. One of the main places in the singer’s career is cinema. The opera film " Tosca ", which appeared in 2001 and was a huge success, was the first film for the tenor.

Over the short years of his work, he has collected many awards and even the state order of the French Republic “For Merit”. The albums "Roberto Alagna Chante Luis Mariano" and "Sicilien" received a platinum certificate in France, with a circulation of more than 100,000 copies ^[1] .

Roberto also takes an active part in international events: a Nobel Peace Prize concert, a Michael Jackson and Friends concert, a concert in support of children in Kosovo, and a concert marking the anniversary of the Queen of England.

In 2001, starred in the film-opera Giacomo Puccini "Tosca". Roberto Alanya opened his wax statue at the Grevin Museum in 2008 and is a knight of the Legion of Honor (2008).

Florence Lansien - Roberto's first wife died of a brain tumor in 1994. He left the only daughter Ornella, who was born in 1992. Alanya's second wife is the soprano Angela Georgiou , whom he married in 1996. Together they recorded duets, played in various opera productions and released the album “Duets & Arias”, which took 42nd place in the UK Albums Chart ^[2] . Played in the opera films "Tosca" (2001) - the film adaptation of the Puccini opera of the same name by the French director Benoit Jacot , Romeo and Juliet (2002) - the film adaptation of the same name opera by Gounod directed by Barbara Willis Sweet . In October 2009, Roberto informed Le Figaro of his divorce from Angela.

In March 2011, Gheorghiu and Alanya announced the resumption of cooperation. Currently (2014) married to the Polish opera singer-soprano Alexandra Kurzak. They co-recorded the disc Roberto Alanya: My Life is Opera. Daughters from this marriage - 6 months ^[3] .

In 2006, there was a scandal involving Alanya in La Scala. During the performance of the aria of Radames, the audience booed the tenor, and he left the stage with a wave of his hand. Then Antonello Palombi, who had no time to change his clothes, was put on stage, who continued to sing in jeans and a T-shirt, not paying attention to angry spectators. Most likely, Alanya’s recent words about too large “requests” of La Scala viewers became the cause of dissatisfaction. Roberto told reporters what happened: "I sang all over the world, but in front of today's audience I felt like I was in a different world."
