Sergei Eisenstein (1898-1948) - the great pioneer of Russian cinema . This film is filled with interesting events. It is made with skill and mind that the Master himself would approve.
Story
Eisenstein grew up among the pre-revolutionary luxury of Russia's highest bourgeoisie. He was a living example of respectability as a student at the Institute of Civil Engineers in St. Petersburg. But he was haunted by a vague "dream of art."
In St. Petersburg, he acquired a taste for Schopenhauer , Nietzsche and, most dangerous - the theater . But only after the revolution , which marked the end of the world of his parents, he freely realized his artistic dreams. After the international recognition that he achieved in 1925 with Battleship Potemkin , he courted Hollywood , but, disappointed, returned to Stalin's Russia, where he directed his largest film works: Alexander Nevsky and Ivan the Terrible .
Increasingly, Stalin criticizes him. Eisenstein felt that the noose was tightening, and, knowing that his fate had been decided, he seemed to consciously earned himself to death.
Artistic Merit
The film adopted many of Eisenstein ’s authorial methods. This is a mixture of newly captured material and chronicles, photographs and feature films. Organized in chronological order, the film changes movement when it talks about the last days of Eisenstein, when, persecuted and desperate, he continued to work frantically.
