Mieegombyn Enkhbold

Mieegombyn Enkhbold ( Mong. Mieegombyn Enkhbold ; born in 1964) is a Mongolian statesman. Since December 2007, he was Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia. He worked as prime minister from January 2006 to November 2007. From 2005 to October 2007, he was chairman of the MPRP , and also previously held the post of mayor of the capital, Ulan Bator . From July 2016 to January 2019, Chairman of the Great State Khural of Mongolia.

Education and early years

M. Enkhbold is married and has two children.

He graduated from school in 1982 , and in 1983 began to study at the university. In 1987, he received a bachelor's degree from the National University of Mongolia with a degree in centrally planned economics.

Since 1987, he worked as an economist in the executive body of the Assembly of People's Deputies of Ulan Bator. In 1989, he became a specialist in the Department of Planning.

Joining the MPRP and Municipal Policy

M. Enkhbold joined the MPRP in 1990 , at the same time when the Politburo of the MPRP resigned and the democratic process began in Mongolia.

The MPRP appointed M. Enkhbold as Deputy Governor of Chingeltei District from 1992 to 1996, and as Chairman of the Presidium of the district Khural representatives of citizens from 1996 to 1997. Later, the MPRP appointed him Chairman of the Council of the MPRP in Ulan Bator from 1997 to 2005. In 1999, he was elected mayor of Ulan Bator . It is considered the founder and organizer of land speculation, which began during the time of his administration of the city. Through this activity, he is one of the most “wealthy and criminally” influential people in Mongolia.

National Policy

M. Enkhbold contributed to the presidential campaign of Nambaryn Enkhbayar in 2005. When N. Enkhbayar became the president of Mongolia, by law he was forced to resign as Chairman of the MPRP. This position then remained with M. Enkhbold.

In January 2006, the MPRP decided to quit the coalition, and ten of its ministers resigned. This meant that more than half of the ministerial positions were vacant, and the parliament had no choice but to dissolve the Government, removing C. Elbegdorz from power. The MPRP felt strong enough because it received exactly half of the seats. At the suggestion of President N. Enkhbayar, the parliament approved M. Enkhbold as the new prime minister starting January 25, 2006.

M. Enkhbold resigned to parliament on November 5, 2007, and parliament adopted it on November 8 . M. Enkhbold remained in this post [1] until a new Prime Minister was elected, that is, until November 22, 2007 [2] .

On December 5, 2007, M. Enkhbold was appointed deputy new prime minister [3] .

Since July 2016, he has been Chairman of the Great State Khural of Mongolia. He participated in the 2017 presidential election and lost them to Khaltmaagiin Battulge . [four]

On January 29, 2019, he was dismissed from his post as chairman of the Great State Khural amid a scandal with the sale of public posts. [5] [6]
