Pirate Party
At the end of 2005, Ricard Falkving began work on the creation of a political party that would devote its activities to copyright, patent and file sharing issues. On December 15, 2005, the piratpartiet.se domain ( Pirate Party ) was registered, and on January 1, 2006, the party's website began to function. Within two days, the site received about 3 million visits.
The activities of the Swedish Pirate Party marked the beginning of the creation of the Pirate International - an international movement of pirate parties.
Election Participation
Under the leadership of Ricard Falkving, the party gained 0.63% of the vote in the 2006 Swedish parliamentary elections.
In the European Parliament election in 2009, the Pirate Party of Sweden won 7.13% of the vote. This event was widely covered in the world press. Ricard Falkving praised the success of his party in the elections as "a new outbreak of the struggle for civil liberties in Europe and around the world."
Current activities
On January 1, 2011, five years after the creation of the Pirate Party, Rickard Falkving announced during a live broadcast on his resignation from the post of party leader. This position was taken by Anna Troberg .
Falkving is currently promoting the ideas of the Pirate International, traveling around the world and giving lectures.
Awards and recognition
Rikard Falkving won the 2010 Swedish IT Person Award. Fokus magazine has listed him among the 100 most influential people in Sweden.
