The Republic of the Cape Verde Islands is the name of the Republic of Cape Verde during the rule of the pro-socialist government . On July 5, 1975, after gaining independence, President Amilkar Cabral (who is also the head of PAIGC ) proclaimed the country's socialist direction and began to establish diplomatic relations with the countries of the social camp. The country established particularly close relations in alliance with Guinea-Bissau , since the ruling party was united. In the end, the party lost power and on February 6, 1986, the Democrats banned the use of the name of the country in translation and removed the word "ilhas" (from the port. - "islands") from the name.
