Daughter of the king of elflandia

“The Daughter of the King of Elflandia” is a work created by the Irish English-language writer and poet Edward John Morton Drax Plunkett , known as Lord Dunseni. The work belongs to the fantasy genre and was published in 1924.

Story

The elders of Earle come to their lord, demanding that someone who is not alien to magic rule them. The lord agrees and for this sends his son Alveric to the land of the elves to marry the elven princess. Alverik receives a magic sword forged from lightning as a gift from a local witch, and sets off on his journey.

In a magical land, he defeats the guard of Princess Lirazel in battle, meets her, sympathy arises between them, and together they run back. Upon returning home, Alveric learns that his father is old and dead - it turns out that in the country of elves, time goes much slower than in humans. Lirazel and Alveric have a son, who is called Orion.

Over time, the princess becomes bored among people: she does not understand why you can not laugh at a funeral, talk with goats, worship the stars. Alverik, who has already matured, requires his wife to strictly observe traditions and attend church - a conflict arises between them, Lirazel leaves people and returns to his father.

Alverik capturing his sword and a bunch of crazy people (no one else agreed to look for an elven country) goes in search of. Orion grows up and hunts unicorns along with trolls and swamp lights, so much magic scares the locals (who were looking for him before), and they ask the witch to turn down the wolf, she refuses, but the local priest supports them.

The search for a magical land is unsuccessful, Alverik learns from the sorcerer that he cannot enter the country of elves, as long as his sword is with him, but the sorceress gives him a magic weight, with which he can enter the country. When the moment presented itself, the crazy companions did not allow their lord to enter the magical land and captured him. Lirazel began to miss her son and husband, and persuaded her father to use his most powerful magic, the elven country went beyond its borders and filled the village of Earl. All the separated people met and healed happily ever after, only the priest’s church passed miracles, however, he was glad about it.
