History

The idea of making a magical circus performance in which all the numbers are performed by children was presented at the Eurovision TV congress in May 2009 by Swiss Radio and Television (RTS) and Damien Otte, executive producer of 7 Street Productions and director of children's programs at RTS. The European Broadcasting Union, the organizer of the Eurovision contests, responded enthusiastically to the proposal, and already in the spring of 2010, the selection of participants for the premiere program began.

 “This is a unique experience for us, since the circus program was first developed as part of the entertainment programs of Eurovision. It is amazing and incredible to see children from different countries of Europe united by one common passion - to circus ... This is only the beginning, and we hope that the transfer will become a great European tradition! ”
Nadia Burkhardt, Project Manager

The main producers were Romance Switzerland Television and 7 Street Productions in co-authorship with four national broadcasting organizations - French France 3, Portuguese RTP, Dutch Tros and Belgian VRT Ketnet. Russia, Ukraine, Italy, Slovenia, international French-language television TV5 Monde and Canadian TV5 Canada bought the rights to broadcast the show.

First Contest

The first competition “Magic Circus Show” was held on November 26, 2010 at the Christmas Circus, which is located in the Swiss city of Geneva. It was attended by 6 countries: Switzerland (organizer), France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal and Russia. The first competition could be attended by children who, at the time of participation in the competition, were from 6 to 15 years old. Each country presented at least three numbers, and sketches of the famous clown Elastic and the music of Magic Circus Orchestra were connected in a single performance.

Eurovision Talent Competition

It was also expected that the first “Eurovision Talent Competition” will be held in 2010 by the Russian First Channel , which in 2009 organized the Eurovision 2009 song contest. The show, based on the Got Talent projects or their Russian version of “ Minute of Glory ”, was supposed to be a new addition to the television show family of Eurovision contests after the Eurovision Song Contest , Junior Eurovision and Dance Eurovision , proposed by the European Broadcasting Union .

It was planned that the first stages of the competition will be held on the Internet, voting will be conducted on the posted online video of applicants. Further, in the traditions of Eurovision, in each participating country will pass their national selections broadcast by national television companies. In the international finals of the competition, voting will be carried out by a panel of experts - national stars from 10 countries, which will award points to all participants in the competition. Also, viewers will express their opinion by telephone and SMS-voting. It was also planned that before the competition any talents other than singers, dancers, children and animals will be allowed.

Format and Rules

The rules of the competition are based on the rules of Junior Eurovision, but at the same time have a large number of differences. As in all competitions of the Eurovision family, the country, as a participant, represents a television broadcaster from this country. The competition takes place in one of the participating countries.

The competition is held as follows:

  • From January to March, the European Broadcasting Union accepts applications from countries to participate in the project;
  • Then, national selections take place in the countries that applied for participation;
  • Selected participants are invited to record shows in the country and city, which the European Broadcasting Union has approved as the host of the project;
  • At the end of November or in December, the project is recorded;
  • After recording the project, the European Broadcasting Union transmits the recording to the participating country or the country that purchased the rights to display the project, and then the broadcasters that received the rights to display from EMU show the shows at the date and time that the European Broadcasting Union has set for the show.

Basic Rules

  • The European Broadcasting Union elects the host country of the contest at a meeting of the organizing council of the contest. At the meetings of the organizing council of the competition, which are held before the appointed date of the final of the competition, the main arena, visual design (logo) and stage design of the competition are approved;
  • A country that is a full (active) member of the European Broadcasting Union has the right to take part in the competition;
  • Applications from countries for participation in the competition are accepted until the date set by the European Broadcasting Union (EMU);
  • After the official application for participation is submitted, the country participating in the competition must conduct open or closed national selection (closed - the national television and radio company of the participating country itself appoints a representative for the competition; open - the country representative is selected by televoting). According to the results of the national selection, a country can put up to four participants to the competition;
  • The participating country must conduct a national selection before the date set by the European Broadcasting Union (EMU);
  • The winner of the competition is not determined, since the competition is not broadcast live, but is recorded in advance. This distinguishes the Magic Circus Show contest from other Eurovision family contests.

Requirements for Participants

  • A representative who is 9 to 14 years old at the time of participation in the competition may take part in the competition;
  • Competition participants are allowed to perform juggler, acrobatic, air gymnastic and clown numbers.
