(747) Winchester is a large asteroid of the Main Belt , which was discovered on March 7, 1913 by the American astronomer Joel Metcalf and named after the American city of Winchester ( Massachusetts , USA ), from where the discoverer made his observations [2] .

Photometric observations made in 2007 at the Palmer Divide Observatory made it possible to obtain the light curves of this body, from which it followed that the period of rotation of the asteroid around its axis is 9.4146 ± 0.0002 hours, with a change in brightness with rotation of 0.16 ± 0.02 m [3] .
