The surname of the Gaverdovsky family comes from the name of the village of Gaverdovo [2] . The first of the well-known Gaverdovskys in written sources is the boyar of the Murom-Ryazan archbishop Fyodor Gaverdovsky, who represented the lord in a land court, instituted (1464) by Prince Ryazan Vasily Ivanovich [3] . Until the incorporation of the Ryazan principality into the Moscow state (1521), the Gaverdovskys were boyars of the Ryazan rulers [4] . In the middle of the XVI century, some representatives of the clan began to switch to the service of the Grand Dukes of Moscow [4] . In a dozen of the revolt of the sovereign noble children to the Moscow service (1604) several Gaverdovskys were mentioned at once [5] .

In the VI part of the genealogical book of the Ryazan province [6] , the offspring of Semyon Fateevich Gaverdovsky, introduced by estates in Ryazan district for the “ Moscow siege seat ”, was introduced. His offspring (including the grandson of Gabriel Rodionovich) was then transferred by Herald to the second part of the genealogy book, in the person of Fedot Stepanovich Gaverdovsky, the great-great-grandson of the ancestor [7] .

Another branch of the Gaverdovsky, introduced in the VI part of the genealogy of the Ryazan province, comes from Stepan Vasilyevich Gaverdovsky, granted by estates (1629) [8] .
