1973 World Rally Championship

The World Rally Championship of 1973 - the first World Rally Championship under the auspices of the FIA. It consisted of 13 rally stages that took place in different countries of the world. Many of these stages are held to this day - for example, the Monte Carlo Rally , the Rally of Sweden , the Rally of Corsica , the Rally of Great Britain . Most of the stages took place on gravel. Two asphalt stages and one snow. In addition, there were stages with a mixed coating.

The first championship was held only among manufacturing teams, there was no personal pilot record. The victory was confidently won by the Alpine-Renault team, the Fiat team took the second place, the third was Ford . This victory for Alpine-Renault was the first and only - Lancia and Fiat took the lead in subsequent seasons. French teams won no titles until 1985 , when the Peugeot team won the manufacturers championship.

Points were awarded to teams on the system: if the pilots of one team took 1, 3, and 10th places, the team will receive only points for the first place, points for the third and tenth will not be given to anyone.
