Sudeikin, George Porfirievich

Biography

From the nobility of Smolensk province. Secondary education in the Smolensk gymnasium .

He entered the military service as a volunteer in the 4th Koporsky Infantry Regiment . After production, non-commissioned officers entered the Moscow Infantry Cadet School , after which, on August 18, 1870, he was promoted to warrant officer . In 1871 he was promoted to lieutenant and appointed a regimental adjutant. In December 1872, for distinguished service, he was promoted to lieutenant .

In February 1874, he was admitted to the Separate Corps of Gendarmes and appointed an adjutant of the Voronezh Gendarme Police Department of the Railway.

In 1877, having received an extraordinary rank of staff captain , he was appointed assistant to the head of the Kiev provincial gendarme department. In 1879, he revealed the Kiev organization of the People’s Will , which contributed to his rapid career.

In 1881 he became the head of the agency of the Petersburg security department and a confidant of V. K. Plehve and D. A. Tolstoy .

In 1882, he occupied the post of inspector of the secret police, specially established for him. Sudeikin managed to make his agent a prominent Narodnogovoltsa S.P. Degayev , due to which a large number of revolutionaries were arrested, including all remaining members of the executive committee of the People’s Will [1] .

He was killed on December 16, 1883 in a safe flat in St. Petersburg (Nevsky Prospect, 93, sq. 13) by the People of the People V. P. Konashevich and N. P. Starodvorsky with the assistance of S. P. Degayev, who was playing a double game [2] .

Image in literature

It is widely believed that Sudeikin’s career formed the basis of the image of Prince Pozharsky in Boris Akunin ’s novel “The State Counselor” [3] .

Sudeikin is one of the heroes of the historical novel by Yu.V. Davydov “ Dead time of leaf fall”.
