Kuhrud (translated "mountain river" [1] ) is a mountain range in Iran , in the system of the Central Iranian mountains .

The length from northwest to southeast is about 900 km, the prevailing heights are 2000-3000 m. The highest point is the extinct volcano Khezar (4420 m). The ridge is composed mainly of sedimentary and volcanic strata. The annual rainfall varies from 100 mm in the foothills to 300 mm in the upper zone of the mountains. The landscape is dominated by mountain deserts and semi-deserts , in the upper zone - mountain steppes . Thickets of walnuts are found along the gorges , as well as small oases . The main branch of agriculture is grazing.
