Biography
Early years
Alexander G. Vazhinsky was born on February 27, 1910 in the city of Maykop, Kuban Region (now the Republic of Adygea ) in the family of a Russian worker. Being orphaned at 11, when his father died, who worked as a glue maker at a furniture factory, he left school and went to work as a shepherd at his fist. In 1926, after graduating from the school of working youth, he worked as an electrician in urban electrical networks and in a furniture factory. In 1931 he left his native Maykop and went to Kharkov, where he worked at a turbogenerator plant as a foreman of the Komsomol electricians brigade and at the same time studied at the electromechanical institute.
Since August 1933 - in the ranks of the Red Army . He graduated from the military aviation school of pilots in Kharkov in 1936.
In the Red Army
In August 1933, A.G. Vazhinsky was called up to the Red Army by the special command of the Central Committee of the CPSU (B.) And sent by the Komsomol committee of the plant to the 9th Kharkov military aviation school of pilots. Three years of intense study passed unnoticed, and in January 1936, having received the rank of lieutenant, began serving as a pilot in the aviation units of the Belarusian Military District. In the summer of 1940, as one of the best pilots who possessed high flying skills and methodical culture, he was sent as an instructor pilot to the Pukhovichi military aviation school, which was evacuated to Chkalov at the beginning of the war and joined the local aviation school of pilots. A member of the CPSU since 1942.
As a school commander, Alexander Grigorievich devoted himself entirely to the training and education of future flight personnel, but his soul rushed to the front, where the fate of the country was decided. I wrote a report for a report until his request was granted.
Participation in the Great Patriotic War
He was appointed commander of the link in the 18th Red Banner Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 202nd Mid-Don Bomber Aviation Division, and in May 1943, becoming deputy squadron commander, arrived on the South-Western Front, whose troops carried out heavy defensive operations on the Seversky Donets Since May 5, 1943, Alexander Vazhinsky took part in hostilities on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War . As part of the 18th Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 5th Air Army and the 6th Bomber Aviation Regiment (since May 15, 1944), Vazhinsky flew combat missions on the Voronezh and 1st Ukrainian Fronts .
By April 1945, made 116 sorties for reconnaissance and bombardment of railway stations, airfields, clusters of manpower and equipment of the enemy. Of these, 72 sorties are for group missions and 19 for reconnaissance. Vazhinsky was the first to introduce the method of using Pe-2 airplanes to a “free hunt” and made 15 such sorties in extremely difficult weather conditions [1] .
Vazhinsky's squadron under his leadership produced 554 sorties, destroying 240 vehicles, 90 tanks, 28 warehouses with fuel and ammunition, as well as a number of other objects (airfields, runways, railroad tracks, trains, etc.). In addition, the squadron inflicted heavy damage to the enemy in manpower, and in air battles shot down 9 aircraft, while losing one of its crew [1] .
Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated June 27, 1945 for courage and heroism shown in battles with the German fascist invaders, for excellent driving of the groups with the least losses, excellent leadership of the unit and 116 successful combat missions, Major Alexander Vazhinsky was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war
Since 1947, Alexander Vazhinsky - Stock Major. He lived in the city of Sochi and worked as deputy director for the economic part of the Matsesta chaysokhoz.
October 2, 1970, Alexander G. Vazhinsky died.
