Career
Hannu Mikkola started his racing career in international competitions relatively late, at 31. In the 1970s, Mikkola was a leader in many international races, usually driving a Ford Escort . In 1977, the Swedish navigator Arne Hertz joined Hannah Mikkola, for their joint career (until 1990), they achieved many victories. In 1979, Hannu had his first major achievement, after fighting throughout the season, he lost only one point to champion Bjorn Valdegord and took second place in the championship. In the 1980 championship, he also took second place at the end of the season at Ford. In early 1981, Hannu Mikkola transferred to the Audi factory team. The revolutionary Audi Quattro fell into his control. From the very beginning of his performance in the new team, Mikkola began to win the rally. After victories in Sweden and the UK, he finished third in the 1981 championship. In 1982, after victories in Finland and the UK, third place in the championship again. In 1983, four victories and three second places allowed him and his navigator Arne Hertz to finally obtain the coveted world rally champion title. In 1984 - second place. Hannu remained in Audi until 1987, but in those years he did not find much success. After which he moved to Mazda for which he played until 1991. From 1991 to 1993, Mikkola carried out only a few stages. After which he "retired." In September 2008, Mikkola took part in the Colin McRae Rally, a race dedicated to the memory of 2007 Colin McRae.
