Biography
Kasymbekov was born in the family of a collective farmer. In 1949 he graduated from Kara-Dzhigach secondary school, in 1957 - the philological faculty of KSU. He began his career as a primary school teacher in his native village. Since 1951, he worked as executive secretary of the Kichi-Akzholsky village council. A few years later, he became the editor of children's and youth literature of Kirghizuchpedgiz, since 1960 - the head of the department, executive secretary, and since 1966 - the chief editor of AlaToo magazine. Further, he is editor of the State Committee for Publishing of the Kyrgyz SSR, a literary consultant in prose on the board of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan. In 1987, he was elected head of the republican branch of the VAAP [1] .
In 1952 he made his debut with the story “Little Herd” in the magazine “Soviet Kyrgyzstan”. His story “I want to be a man” was published in 1965 in Russian. The most significant work of the writer is the historical novel Broken Sword (1971), which was translated into English in 1980. Other works include novels: Kelkel, Chapkyn, Baskyn (Invasion), Kyrgyz (Extermination), which tell about the history of Kyrgyzstan from the middle of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
Tologon Kasymbekov actively participated in the public life of his country. In 1990-1994 He was elected as a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, was the head of the international commission on language, culture and education, as well as the chairman of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan.
Awards and titles
Hero of the Kyrgyz Republic (2007).
He was awarded the Order "Manas" I degree, the medal "Dank." In 1986 he was awarded the title of People's Writer of the Kyrgyz SSR.
