History

In 1986, Judas Priest released the Turbo album, which was significantly different from the previous work of the group using synthesizers, simplifying lyrics and shifting the sound towards glam metal . Initially, the musicians planned to release a twin album, Twin Turbos , but the release of the double album would have been much more expensive and would have brought less income, and the record company insisted on the release of a single album. Turbo included songs from Twin Turbos , which had a more commercial sound. Most of the songs that were not released on Turbo were transferred to the 1988 Ram It Down album. Ram It Down was heavier than its predecessor [6] , but also recorded using synthesizers. Also, a drum machine was used during recording due to health problems of drummer Dave Holland.

Critics' reviews were negative, the album was called a "mishmash of styles" and "metallic cotton candy", "resulting from the desire to return to metal roots" [7] .

Album Support Tour

In May 1988, Judas Priest went on tour supporting the Ram It Down album , called the Mercenaries of Metal Tour, and lasted until October 1988. The set list from the album included songs Ram It Down , Heavy Metal , Come And Get It , I'm A Rocker , sometimes also performed by Johnny B. Goode [8] .
