Barahona ( Spanish: Barahona ) is a province in the Dominican Republic . Its administrative center is the city of Santa Cruz de Barahona .

Geography
The province of Barahona is located in the extreme southwest of the Dominican Republic and is washed by the waters of the Caribbean Sea from the south.
History
The territory of the Dominican province of Barahona is one of the first places in America where the Europeans set foot (during the first expedition of Christopher Columbus in 1492).
Until 1958, it also included the current Dominican province of Pedernales .
In 1974, the Larimar deposit was discovered in Barahon ; since the 1980s, this mineral has been commercially mined and processed.
