The station was opened on October 27, 1904 as part of the first phase of the Interborough Rapid Transit Company (IRT) network. At that time, trains ran from City Hall Station to 145th Street . The station was closed, since the station 96th Street after construction was extended southward, up to 93rd Street, that is, there were only two blocks between the stations.
Today, passing a train past an abandoned station, you can see its shape.
