Matches men's national team of Russia in volleyball 1999

In the 1999 season , the Russian national team took part in three official tournaments - the World League , the European Championship and the World Cup .

Matches

The season of 1999 became one of the longest and most successful in the history of the Russian national team - for the first time the national team became the finalist of the European Championship and won the World Cup.

As part of the World League tournament , the Russian volleyball players, after a series of six home games, made a round-the-world trip of their own - having covered 30 thousand kilometers in less than a month, the team of Gennady Shipulin played in Italy , Australia , and then at the “Final Six” in the Argentine city of Mar- del Plata , where she could not get to the decisive match, losing in the semifinals of the Italian national team .

The confrontation between the teams of Russia and Italy was continued at the European Championships in Vienna , where only 8 teams participated. The group tournament match between them ended with a confident victory for the Russians, but in the finals of “Squadra Azzurra”, to which experienced experts Paolo Tofoli, Andrea Gardini, Pasquale Gravina and Marco Bracci and led by gorgeous Andrea Jani returned before this championship, took revenge.

The second place in the European Championship allowed the Russian team to take part in the World Cup . Due to the injury of captain Vadim Khamuttsky, the main team binding was Konstantin Ushakov , who played one of the best tournaments in his career. In the second game day, the Russians won an important victory over the Italian national team, which they held the eighth official meeting for the season, then achieved difficult victories over the Brazilian and US teams and in the key match of the tournament they defeated Cuba for a long time. On the final day of the World Cup, the Russian team lost to the Spaniards , but the result of this match did not affect the overall result, since Shipulina’s team secured a victory in the World Cup for the tour before the end of the tournament. MVP Prize was awarded to the diagonal Roman Yakovlev .
