Almost nothing is known about the Duke of Benevento Adelais. The main reason for this is the insufficient coverage of the early medieval history of Benevento in the sources . In the History of the Lombards , by Paul Deacon, his name is not mentioned.
In 732, after the death of Duke Romuald II, Adelais usurped power in the Duchy of Benevento, removing his minor son and heir Gisulf II from it .
However, the Lombard king Liutprand some time later removed Adelais and appointed his nephew Gregory as duke of Benevento. The further fate of Adelais is unknown.
