Division History
Formed in July 1941 in the Voronezh region as the 31st Cavalry Division (2nd formation) . Its composition included the 111th, 114th and 116th cavalry regiments and other units.
As of October 1, 1941, it was part of the 49th Army of the Reserve Front . On October 3, in accordance with the Supreme Command of the Supreme High Command No. 2703 / op of the Reserve Front commander on changing the areas of concentration of divisions, the 31st Cavalry Division was ordered to concentrate on changing the earlier directive in the area of ββthe city of Belev .
First entered battle on October 10, 1941 near Kozelsk during a defensive battle near Moscow as part of the 49th Army of the Western Front, performing the task of defending the direction of Kozelsk, Belev.
In late October - mid November, in collaboration with other units of the 50th Army, she fought stubborn battles in the area of ββthe city of Tula . With the transition of the troops of the Western Front to a counter-offensive, it acted on the rear and communications of the enemy in the area of Tula , Venev , Mordves .
As part of the mobile group of the 50th Army, she participated in the liberation of Kaluga (December 30, 1941).
During the offensive westward in the winter of 1941/1942. fought in the 50th Army and the 1st Guards Cavalry Corps (in this corps, with small interruptions, operated until the end of the war).
On January 5, 1942, on January 5, 1942, it was transformed into the 7th Guards Cavalry Division for the exemplary fulfillment of command tasks in battles with Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown by the personnel.
