Biography
Grigory Mikhailovich Kravtsov was born on March 14, 1922 in the village of Starozhilovka, now the village of Kravtsovo of the Fedorovsky district of the Kostanay region of the Republic of Kazakhstan into a peasant family.
After finishing seven classes, he worked on a collective farm, and after graduating from a two-year school of livestock specialists in Kustanai , he worked as a veterinary paramedic.
In September 1941, Grigory Kravtsov was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army and was sent to the Omsk Aviation School , after which he did not fly long.
In 1942 he joined the ranks of the CPSU (b) , graduated from the military-political school and became a political worker.
In June 1943, Lieutenant Kravtsov was sent to the Smersh counterintelligence department of the Volga Region as an officer in charge.
In August 1944, Kravtsov, at his own request, was sent to the army as the operative officer of the Smersh counterintelligence department of the 69th Army to service the 374th separate army penalty company. A group of scouts lieutenant Kravtsov destroyed eight opponents and captured two. One of the prisoners turned out to be a non-commissioned officer and provided valuable information regarding the regrouping of enemy forces. For this operation, Kravtsov was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree.
During the battles in Poland, Kravtsov was the operative of the Smersh counterintelligence department of the 134th Infantry Division of the 69th Army.
On January 14, 1945, in a battle near the village of Kochanow (west of the city of Pulawy , Poland ), Grigory Mikhailovich Kravtsov replaced the outdated company commander. During the battle, he skillfully led the unit when breaking through the enemy’s defense on the left bank of the Vistula , was wounded in the arm. Continuing to lead the company, he was killed by a direct hit by a shell.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 6, 1945, for the exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown to this, Lieutenant Grigory Mikhailovich Kravtsov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .

Memory
Streets in Kostanay and in the village of Fedorovka are named in honor of Grigory Kravtsov. The village of Starozhilovka was renamed the village of Kravtsovo.
In December 2018, the Post of Lugansk People’s Republic issued a stamp dedicated to G. Kravtsov, included in the block “100 years of military counterintelligence agencies” [1] .
