Systematics

Previously, the genus belonged to the Taphrinaceae family ( Taphrinaceae ), since these fungi form a continuous spore-bearing layer under the cuticle of the plant, as well as the species of tafrina ( Taphrina ), in terms of the nature of the damage to plant organs, tafridium is also close to tafrin. But for this genus, the type of development of the spore-bearing organs is characteristic of the same as for other genera of the protomyceae, the so-called Protomyces is a type of ascogenesis ( see Protomyceae # Life cycle and ontogenesis ).

Morphology

Grayish or whitish spots of various shapes appear on the affected leaves of the plant, curvatures and small swelling may form.

Ascogenous cells ( see. Protomycium # Morphology ) form a layer under the epidermis of the leaf. They are spherical, ellipsoidal, or due to the close arrangement of a multifaceted shape, smooth, colorless, thin-walled (a shell 2-3 microns thick).

Ascospores are formed without a resting period directly in the ascogenous cells, and no synapses are formed. After rupture of the shell of the ascogenous cell, the ascospores are grouped in pairs.

Tafridium mycelium can winter in the rhizomes of plants.

Views

The genus consists of two species, and it also described several more species, subsequently transferred to other genera of the protomyceae.
