Istapa ( Spanish: Ixtapa ) is a municipality in Mexico , Chiapas , with an administrative center in the city of the same name . According to the 2010 census, the population was 24,517.

Content
General information
The name Ixtapa from the Tzotsil language can be translated as a place of salt water .
The area of the municipality is 313 km², which is 0.4% of the state. It borders with other municipalities of Chiapas : in the north with Soyalo , Bochil and Larrainsar , in the east with Chamula and Sinakantan , and in the south and west with Chiapa de Corso [3] .

The municipality was formed on November 18, 1943 [4] , it includes 67 settlements, the largest of which are:

Economic activity
The working population is occupied by sectors of the economy in the following proportions: agriculture and livestock - 72.6%, manufacturing and manufacturing - 10%, services and tourism - 16%. Main activities [4] :

Main crops grown: corn and fruits .
Livestock
Cattle , horses , pigs and poultry are bred in the municipality.
Forestry
Pine wood is being harvested.
Services
In the municipality you can find only hotel and restaurant services, as only 40 km is the state capital.
Infrastructure
According to statistics from 2000, the infrastructure is developed as follows [4] :
- length of roads: 175.3 km;
- electrification: 93.9%;
- water supply: 85.4%;
- water disposal: 60.3%.
Tourism
Main attractions: church and administration building, built in the colonial period; It is also worth noting the geothermal springs of Salinas and Francisco Romo Serrano, as well as caves near the villages of Santa Barbara, Concepcion and Zapotillo [4] .
