The origin of Fredaria and the circumstances of his occupation of the post of Viscount Carcassonne are unknown. For the first time his name was named in a charter given on June 11, 877 to Olibe II, King of the West Frankish State, Charles II Lysy . In it, the count, among other things, transferred lands and property confiscated earlier from several rebels, among whom was Fredary and his wife Drufiana. The document characterizes the first Viscount of Carcassonne as a “traitor”, but does not provide any additional details [2] .
Nothing is known about the future fate of Fredaria. The charter on the big congress of the Languedoc nobility held in the city of Alzonn dated June 16, 918 contains evidence that, among other decisions at this meeting, it was decided to return to the descendants of Fredary all the lands confiscated from him in 877 [3] .
The next well-known from the sources of the Viscount of Carcassonne was Sikfred mentioned in 883.
