Sinacantán ( Spanish: Zinacantán ) is a municipality in Mexico , Chiapas , with an administrative center in the city of the same name . The population according to the 2010 census was 36,489.

Content
General information
The name Zinacantán from the Nahuatl language can be translated as the abode of bats .
The area of the municipality is 171.4 km², which is 0.2% of the state. It borders with other municipalities of Chiapas : in the north with Chamula , in the east with San Cristobal de las Casas , in the south with San Lucas and Akala , and in the west with Chiapa de Corso and Istapa [3] .

The municipality was formed on November 23, 1922 [4] , it includes 53 settlements, the largest of which are:

Economic activity
The working population is employed by sectors of the economy in the following proportions: agriculture and livestock - 63.8%, manufacturing and manufacturing - 17.1%, services and tourism - 16.8% [4] .
Infrastructure
According to statistics from 2000, the infrastructure is developed as follows [4] :
- length of roads: 169.2 km;
- electrification: 90.4%;
- water supply: 60.4%;
- water disposal: 18.3%.
Tourism
Main attractions: Antsetic Tahteklum Museum, which presents archaeological exhibits of the Mayan culture ; Colonial Church of St. Lorenzo [4] .
