Musical Petersburg is a multi-volume encyclopedia published by Composer Publishing House • St. Petersburg since 2000. The encyclopedia is prepared mainly by the staff of the Russian Institute of Art History . Here, for the first time, a full picture of the musical culture of St. Petersburg from the XVIII century is presented - that is, from the beginning of the history of professional music in Russia.
Consists of "subseries": the first 3 books are the encyclopedic dictionary "Musical Petersburg. XVIII century ”, book 4 - synchronous tables of musical events of the largest European capitals (including St. Petersburg) of the XVIII century, book 5 reproduces a handwritten song collection of the XVIII century, book 6 introduces the instrumental works of Anton Ferdinand Titz (famous in St. Petersburg at the end of the 18th – beginning of the 19th centuries of a German violin virtuoso and composer), book 7 is devoted to a review of references to musical instruments in the newspapers Saint Petersburg Vedomosti and Sankt-Petersburgische Zeitung 1728-1780, (book 8 has not yet been released ,) book 9th - public tion Twelve Sonatas for Violin and Basso Luigi (Luigi) Madonisa (a modern version of the publication in 1738, an early sample of Russian Music Printing; Lodovico Madonis - Italian violin virtuoso, a pupil of Vivaldi, most of his life served in Russian), a book of 10-I The 11th is an encyclopedic dictionary-study dedicated to the musical Petersburg of the 19th century (1801-1917).
Thus, the unusual structure of the encyclopedia (for example, a series of volumes from XVIII are a kind of annex to the “main text” - the encyclopedic dictionary) is justified by the unusual structure of the corpus of preserved documents. The need to restore the overall picture from incomplete information dictated the idea of publishing as samples: handwritten collection, handwritten notes, printed notes (single copies preserved from small print runs); from similar considerations - the importance of indirect sources, according to which it is possible to partially restore the overall picture of musical life - the publication of newspaper advertisements for the sale, purchase, loss, repair of musical instruments, etc.
