During the Augsburg League war , he commanded a hussar regiment, distinguished himself during the invasion of Lorraine , and after the conclusion of the Riswick Peace in 1697 he received the rank of major general .
During the war for the Spanish inheritance , he participated in campaigns in Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate , in 1704 he participated in the battle of Hochstedt .
In the years 1704-1732 was a ban of Croatia , Dalmatia and Slavonia . In the rank of general from the cavalry, he commanded the troops operating against the rebels Rakoczy , which rendered great services to the imperial house . He defeated the rebel forces at the battle of Chakaturn and Gros-Magyar, liberated Edenburg from the siege, provided supplies to Shtulweissenburg , successfully fought at Neugeisel , took Nitra , Leitschau, Kashau , Ungwar and Munkach . June 1, 1707 received the rank of Field Marshal . On the battlefield and the negotiations that began with the aim of ending these hostilities, he showed so much zeal and activity that, in fairness, the emperor was obliged to end this war. At the conclusion of peace, Emperor Charles VI granted him a Privy Councilor.
In 1716, Palfi set off on a campaign against Turkey with the intention of taking possession of Petervardine . Palfi with a large cavalry corps suddenly ran into an enemy vanguard of 20,000. All day he fought against the Turks, six times superior to him, and by the end of the day, having lost only 400 people, he joined the main army. The battle of Petervardine was the main event of the whole war. The brutal attacks of the Turks were directed mainly at the cavalry, which was under the command of Count Palfi, and repelled them. When marching to Temesvar, Palfi commanded the vanguard, and at Belgrade , on August 16, 1717, the right wing, composed of 6 cavalry regiments. In the evening, they withstood the desperate attacks of the Turks and earned the special praise of Prince Eugene . In this battle, Palfi was wounded and lost his son.
After the war, he persuaded the Hungarian and Croatian nobility to recognize the Pragmatic sanction .
At the beginning of a new war with Turkey, he was entrusted with the formation of an operational army, but he did not take part in the hostilities and soon afterwards left military service altogether.
After the death of Emperor Charles VI in 1740, he became the closest associates of the young Empress Maria Theresa and her adviser in Hungarian affairs. In 1741-1751 - the Palatine of Hungary . Using a strong influence on the Hungarian magnates , he managed to persuade them to support Maria Theresa.
